Hamsterley WI – Report of Meeting held on 12th April 2011

WI LogoThe meeting commenced with the singing of Jerusalem.

Janet Embleton gave her report from the Annual General Meeting of the Durham Federation of WIs, held at Bishop Auckand Methodist Church that day.

The County letter was read out and it was full of lots of outings and interesting talks.

Members were reminded to speak up if they wish to attend any of the events organised by the County Office, as often other members attending can help with transport.

Janet Embleton has arranged an outing from Hamsterley WI on Tuesday 21 June 2011 for a coach trip for a Talk and Tour of Tennants Auction Centre in Leyburn and free time in Harrogate.  Members of the public are invited to join members on the trip at a cost of £17.00.  Please telephone Janet on 01388 488384 if you wish to attend.

Our Speaker for the evening was Margaret Blythe, who gave an entertaining talk on “What is a Homesitter?” She and her husband were homesitters for 11 years after finding it difficult to adjust to retirement and enjoyed this job enormously.  She had us laughing about the many different pets they had to look after over the years, everything from Stick Insects to Birds of Prey and Highland Cattle.  The houses ranged from large mansions to detached houses with large gardens.

The Vote of Thanks was given by Margaret Henderson.

The Raffle was won by Pat Welsh.

The Date of the next meeting is Tuesday, 10 May 2011 when the Resolutions will be discussed.
