Road Closure

“I’m afraid that the road collapse on the Morley-Woodland road is going to take longer to repair than originally hoped.  In fact it now looks certain that it will still be closed over the Easter weekend.”

Dear Sir or Madam,

Owing to subsidence the road shown on the attached plan (C32 Rowntree Lane between Rowntree Farm and Morley Farm, Morley to Woodland road) has been closed for safety reasons from 16/03/11 for 21 days (the maximum permissible under an emergency closure notice). As the mine working grouting work is not yet complete the closure will be extended by up to a further 21 day period commencing 6 April 2011.
A diversion will be signed on site through Morley, along B6282 toward Butterknowle and north to Crane Row Lane, Woodland.

“The stretch of road from Rowntree Lane as it leads into Crane Row Lane (which is what Steven Galloway obviously means at the end of this message) collapsed yesterday.  As many will know, most of the roads in this area cross former mineworkings and are prone to subsidence.

I’m afraid I can’t tell you if anyone was hurt, though an ambulance certainly attended.

You should assume that the road will be closed for some time, I think, as I gather that the damage is considerable.”
