Hamsterley WI Meeting – April 10th 2012

WI LogoThe President welcomed members and visitors to our open meeting this month and we were pleased to see a good attendance.
The speaker for the evening was ‘Sadie The Bra Lady’ who gave an interesting and very amusing talk.

She told us about the history of her business when she started with a ‘His and Hers’ boutique in Consett and gradually changed the nature of the business from clothes for men and women to bras. She found that ladies did not seem to get these garments to fit correctly. Sadie now offers a unique fitting service. After about two years she had an interview with Alan Robson from Metro Radio who eventually christened her ‘Sadie The Bra Lady’. The name has stayed with her and she went on to use the name for her shops and advertising, including using the back of buses.
She told us that in her shops she carries 160 sizes, amazing, there are now four shops and one franchise.
During her time in business Sadie has won or been placed in many national awards such as Lingerie Retailer of the year, National Finalist in Women Mean Business,Outstanding Achievement in Women’s Enterprise and Best Shop Award for Excellence and Personal Achievement, etc.
The Vote of Thanks was given by Sue Davies.
