Hamsterley WI – Report of meeting held on 9th October 2012

WI LogoThe meeting was opened by our Vice President Pat Welsh who welcomed members and guests. The apologies for absence were read followed by the minutes of the last meeting.

Volunteers were asked for to man the stall at the Fair in Spennymoor Town Hall on Sat. Oct. 20th commencing at 10.30 am.
Schedules were given out for next years competitive craft exhibition at WI House in July 2013 giving people plenty of time to think about an entry.
Our meeting on Nov. 13th starts at 1pm for lunch and members were asked to sign up to say if they would bring soup or sandwiches.
Ann Walshaw gave her report on the Autumn Council meeting which was enjoyed by delegates and visitors. The speaker was Paul Whittaker whom Ann said was brilliant.
The county now has 2000 members.
Next years fund raising is to be a raffle.
The calendar for 2014 is to be made with members paintings, 7″ by 5″ which are to be at County by 31/3/2013.
The WI at county is going to train any members who are interested to check the Accounts of other WI’s.
The next report was given by Hilary Jenkins on her visit to Denman. This was the first time she had visited the college and she thoroughly enjoyed her time there. Visiting the college to do a course of your choice is definitely to be recommended. It is a beautiful house, in lovely grounds and all the people are friendly, an experience not to be missed.
The Newsletter was read through and various events were discussed.
The next Knit and Natter is on 24/10/2012 at 2pm,the venue is the home of Joan McDowell in Crook.
AGM.  Tina Bickerdyke the county adviser and Sue Fox were welcomed to our meeting.
We had the ballot for the committee and our President. Claire Sammut is resigning and Gillian Rutter is joining the committee, all other members are standing.Shirley Wood is resigning as treasurer, after 20 years, and Diane Horn is our new treasurer.Ann Richards was re-elected as our President.
The minutes of AGM 11/10/2011 were read. The financial statement given by Shirley Wood and the years programme was read in brief.
The Presidents report was given by Pat Welsh.
A power point presentation was given by Tina Bickerdyke and Sue Fox explaining the work done and how the money from National to help to increase the membership had been spent. A screen, laptops and projector had been purchased for this purpose.
The WI advisors who come to all AGM meetings from County are trained at Denman College.

The speaker is Lynda Pitt, ‘Life of an Illustrator’.
