The speaker for the evening was Cath Cole OBE and her talk was ‘Bedpans and Palaces’.
This was a story of her life and how it led up to her being chosen for the OBE.
It showed how one does not have to have passed the ’11+’ or gone to a ‘Grammar’ school, just have determination and faith in yourself. Cath trained as a nurse, becoming a Health Visitor, lecturer in further education then a Vice Principal. Eventually as a Principal of a college working with bright young people who had bad disabilities. There were some major problems at the college which Cath , with help from others put right and put the college back on its feet. It was for her work in this field that she was awarded her OBE.
