“Last autumn, a good mate, Simon Parkin died suddenly aged 41. A lovely lad, daft as a brush and always smiling.

In his memory, on June 28th I’ll be running my first/last marathon in the Hamsterley Forest Marathon…… least it’s not far to stagger back home.

Money raised on-line will go to Operation Smile, which provides cleft lip surgery to disadvantaged children around the world, who otherwise wouldn’t be able to have this utterly transforming operation.

If you would like to sponsor me, please go to

And on June 28th, between the hours of 10am and ‘nee idea’, please spare a thought for a hot, sweaty, bald bloke plodding 26.2 miles in the forest, getting attacked by midgies!”
