In its sixth year, the Hoppings continues to provide an afternoon of family fun.

Stalls
Do you have a stall or trade stand? We are on the hunt for stall holders and trade stands for this year’s Hamsterley Hoppings. It may be home-produced cakes or jams, or handmade sculptures. If you have previously taken part or are a new customer, please contact me.

Tug of War
Anyone who would like to enter a Tug of War team? All you need is eight team members and two substitutes. We are looking for mens and ladies teams.
Scarecrows
We hope you’ve all got your ideas for your scarecrows underway.
This year there isn’t a theme, so that gives you no excuse not to join in.
Fancy Dress Competition
As usual, the Hoppings hosts its annual children’s fancy dress competition. This year we have decided to leave the theme open, so choices are endless. We look forward to your creations.
50p entry. Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Just turn up on the day.
Poetry competition
Write a poem (any length) using the title of Hamsterley. There are three age categories: adult (16+), 11-16 years and 10 and under. Entry is free. Simply bring your entries to the Village Hall foyer by 10am on the day, where you can display them. After the Hoppings, all poems will be published together in a collection, with the winners of each category being given pride of place in the book.
Scrufts
Bring you pet, whether furry, scaly or bald! 50p entry. Prize for 1st position, rosettes for 2nd and 3rd. Just turn up on the day.
Art and Photography
This year we have added art and photography to our competitions.
- Water colour painting only. Age categories: up to 7yrs, 7-11yrs, 11-16yrs and 16yrs and over.
- Photography: 1 photograph, no larger than A5 size, of local views.
Flower and Vegetable Competition
This year we are also trying something different – we are going to provide people / households with sunflower and pumpkin seeds, also instructions of how to grow them. We are looking for who can grow the tallest sunflower and the biggest pumpkin.

Produce Competition
As we introduced new produce competitions two years ago, we have expanded on this area. Please bring all entries to the small hall in the Village Hall by 10am. 50p per entry. Cash prize for 1st place and a special prize for best in show.
a) Victoria sponge (7”)
b) Fruit cake (loaf or circular tin
c) A decorated cake (any size – big or small, even a cupcake!
d) Jam (any flavour)
e) Corned beef pie
f) 4 savoury scones – be daring with your ingredients
g) 4 fresh eggs (hen)
