Hamsterley Social Club
For 88 years, the Social Club has served Hamsterley and the surrounding area. A favourite watering hole, a cosy bar, a nice place to have a quiet drink in peaceful surroundings – all this and more is what ‘the Club’ has meant to its patrons. The Social Club is open every evening from 7.30pm. Or call 01388 488366 to arrange a viewing outside these times.

The Spinning Wheel
Originally Hamsterley Working Mens Club, the Social Club was founded in 1920, after the Spinning Wheel (pictured), which operated from the premise, lost its licence. A group comprising Bishop Auckland businessmen, who enjoyed Sunday walks in the areas, got together with local farmers and traders in the village and decided to open a club in the Old Spinning Wheel.
