Monday Club exists thanks to the generosity of a one-time resident, Audrey Wethered, who moved into Hamsterley towards the end of her life and enjoyed herself so much that she left a legacy to the village, to thank the residents for being so welcoming. Audrey wanted a little entertainment to be offered on a regular basis to anyone who would enjoy an evening out.
She is no longer alive but the club, now aimed at all ages, continues to be run in the smaller room of the Village Hall on the third Monday of the winter months (from October to March) starting at 7.30pm and seldom lasting after 9.00pm.
It offers a completely varied and unpredictable programme of talks, slideshows, demonstrations, occasional quizzes and other amusements. The room is always nicely warm and refreshments are provided. There is no charge and all are welcome, children included.
