Green Father SculptureCovering some 2000 hectares on the edge of Teesdale and Weardale, Hamsterley Forest provides many opportunities for outdoor activities with forest walks, nature trails, orienteering courses and mountain bike routes. There are many picnic sites and also a visitor centre and shop. A wide range of events are organised through the year. There are toilets, cycle hire and facilities for the disabled.

Descend Hamsterley Mountain biking in Hamsterley Forest. Club Descend has over 170 members many users from local regions. The club attracts a high number of members from all areas of the UK, from Cumbria, Hull, Leeds, Bradford and Liverpool. To ride our trails all visitors must sign in and purchase a riding pass from the cabin.

Forest Enterprise Visitors to Hamsterley have no shortage of options when it comes to activities. With waymarked walks, bike hire, cycle routes and horse riding trails, all levels of fitness and ability are catered for. Follow all that exercise with a snack or slice of lovely homemade cake in our tearoom and a browse around the gift shop and visitor centre.

The Hamsterley Riding Association In addition to being able to ride in the forest at any time during the year, membership of the Association includes a free, six times per year newsletter detailing events in the forest during the year and all other events organised by the association. These include: and Easter Bunny Ride, a Halloween Ride, a Summer Fun Day, and many other social events.
